Our Board
Gilbert Mulhere
Gil is the California Youth Services Foundation (CYS)
President and has been active with CYS as a speaker, advisor and
fundraiser for since 2005. He became active with CYS after the loss of
his son Kevin to a drug overdose in 2003. Gil has over 36 years of Human
Resources experience and is currently Director, Human Resources with
AECOM Technology Corporation. He serves on the Board of the Boys and
Girls Clubs of Tustin and has previously been on the Boards of the
United Way of Orange County, Family Services of Omaha, Nebraska and the
YMCAs of Clayton and Chesterfield, Missouri.
David Hungerford
David is the Vice President for California Youth
Services Foundation. He has been involved with CYS for over 5 years and
has served both as an advisor and speaker. David founded The Shanon R.
Hungerford Foundation in 2004 after losing his daughter to a drug
overdose and The SRH Foundation has provided significant financial
assistance to CYS. David is the President of Creative Edge Packaging,
Inc. He has served on the advisory board for Coastal Mountain Youth
Academy and various committees for Community Services Programs, Inc.
Florence Mulhere
Flo is the California Youth Services Foundation Board
Secretary and has been active with CYS as a speaker, fundraiser and the
scheduling of JADE program speakers. She became active with CYS after
the loss of her son Kevin to a drug overdose in 2003. Flo also speaks at
school DARE programs and middle and high school health classes around
Orange County regarding adolescent substance abuse and its impact. She
worked at Oak Creek Elementary School in Irvine for 5 ½ years as a
special education instructional assistant.
Michael Murphy
Mike is a California Youth Services Foundation Board
member and has worked in public school education for over forty years.
For the last decade he has been the Director of Student Services for
Newport Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD). In this position, he led
the NMUSD’s highly impactful student alcohol/drug prevention and
remedial programs to include policy development, implementation,
education and disciplinary actions. He has previously served on the
Board of Trustees for the Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter and served a
term as the Board’s President.
Barbara Gustavsen
Barbara is a California Youth Services Foundation Board Member who has been active as a speaker for the JADE program and Project Today and the scheduling of Parent Speakers. She became active with CYS by sharing her journey as a parent of an alcoholic/addict teenager and the help she found. Barbara has spoken to parents, students, teachers, counselors and members of the medical community at junior highs, high schools, colleges and conferences throughout Orange County since 2005. Barbara served as a board member of Coastal Mountain Youth Academy and is a co-sponsor at an Al-Ateen group for teens affected by alcoholism by a family member or friend..
